COTA schools, centers, and institute offer research and research travel support to their faculty, including the Gatorade Fund made available by the UF Office of Research for tenured and tenure-accruing faculty. Speak with your Director to learn more about in-unit funding and how to apply.

COTA offers the following annual funding programs to support faculty research at various stages. They are organized by application deadline below:

COTA Fall/Winter 2023 Research Incentive Award

The College of the Arts Research Incentive Award competition is supported by state funds and provides funding for supplies, equipment and software, travel, and other research-related expenses during the Fall/Winter 2023 period. Faculty may apply for up to $1,000 of support for expenses between October 15, 2023 and February 29, 2024. Proposals may seek support for confirmed performances, presentations, recordings, exhibitions, collaborative activities, etc. That said, proposals reflecting all stages of the research process are welcomed.

COTA 2023-24 Research Incentive Award for Visiting Faculty

The College of the Arts Research Incentive Award competition is supported by College of the Arts state funds to provide funding for supplies, equipment and software, travel requests, and other research-related support during the 2023-2024 academic year. Proposals reflecting all stages of the research process are welcomed. Visiting faculty may apply for this award for up to $1,000 for expenses completed between October 1, 2023 and April 30, 2024. Faculty applicants must be in a visiting professor, visiting lecturer, or postdoctoral scholar line.

2024-25 Arts Scholarship Enhancement Fund (SEF)

The College of the Arts Scholarship Enhancement Fund (SEF) competition is supported by the UF Office of Research to stimulate new or existing creative and scholarly research activities in the arts and humanities at the University of Florida. Award amounts of up to $7,500 dollars for activities between January 2024 and November 2025 are intended to help COTA faculty grow in their research trajectories and position themselves for external funding proposals.

2024-25 Sabbatical and Professional Development Leaves

Sabbaticals and Professional Development Leaves (PDL) provide eligible faculty members with the opportunity for professional renewal, planned travel, study, formal education, research, writing, faculty development, certification, or other experiences of professional value for one-semester periods. Full-time tenured faculty with at least 6 completed years of full-time service at UF prior to the Sabbatical/PDL period, who have not taken a Sabbatical/PDL within the last 6 years, are eligible. A faculty member may apply for a Sabbatical/PDL in the year prior to eligibility, provided that the faculty member is eligible when the Sabbatical/PDL is taken. More information is available on the Office of the Provost website and in Article 20 of the United Faculty of Florida – UF Collective Bargaining Agreement

COTA Internal Review for UF Research Opportunity Seed Fund

The UF Research Opportunity Seed Fund (ROSF) in the Office of the Research awards multidisciplinary, faculty-initiated research projects with strong potential for extramural support. Guided by the philosophy that diverse partnerships across the disciplines drive groundbreaking research and winning proposals, ROSF awards strive to spark research synergies that can launch exceptional long term research collaborations. Proposals must involve faculty from at least two colleges. Proposals led by COTA faculty must compete at the college level; the COTA Research Committee will select one proposal to advance to the UF-wide competition (deadline February 29). Faculty teams may apply for up to $100,000 of support for two years beginning Fall 2024.

COTA Spring/Summer 2024 Research Incentive Awards

The College of the Arts Research Incentive Award competition is supported by state funds and provides funding for supplies, equipment and software, travel, and other research-related expenses during the Spring/Summer 2024 period. Faculty may apply for up to $2,000 of support for expenses between March 1, 2024 and August 31, 2024. Proposals may seek support for confirmed performances, presentations, recordings, exhibitions, collaborative activities, etc. That said, proposals reflecting all stages of the research process are welcomed.

COTA 2023-24 Work-in-Process Award

The College of the Arts Work-in-Process award is designed to support the review, sharing, and iteration of works-in-process by COTA faculty. This award will pay $500 honoraria to each of three reviewers (two external and one internal) to participate in a virtual Works-In-Process Forum. Faculty members will receive support organizing these events and in-depth feedback on the work and its reception, and units will have the opportunity to interact with the guest reviewers and learn more about a faculty member’s creative and scholarly research. Work-in-Process Forums must be completed by June 15, 2024, but ideally will be completed before May 15, 2024 to offer maximum unit engagement.
